Willie is back and running on cheap whiskey, hatred, and high libido. Teaming up with Marcus and his mother, the three plot to rob a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve.
Billy Bob Thornton (Willie), Kathy Bates (Sunny), Tony Cox (Marcus), Christina Hendricks (Diane), Brett Kelly (Thurman), Ryan Hansen (Regent), Jenny Zigrino (Gina), Jeff Skowron (Dorfman), Christina Rosato (Alice).
This time around Marcus approaches Willie about robbing a charity but fails to mention his mother, Sunny, is the mastermind. Add in a life of regret, a full load of disrespect, anger, whiskey, and Willie is ready to lash out at anyone and anything. From there the film is a ride full of raunchy humor pushed along by a plot that is amusing and some parallel side-stories for distraction and innuendo.
Acting was surprisingly good, and funny, with Thornton doing a decent job. Bates fit her role perfectly and executed well. Cox delivered his usual and was good as always. Hendricks was enjoyable and funny, as was Zigrino who was a lot of fun. The remainder of the cast was decent.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are good and as expected from a crime comedy with a decent budget. Action scenes were mild but fitting. Dialogue was funny, raunchy, and moved along well. Sound and soundtrack were boring but fitting.
As raunchy comedies go, Bad Santa 2 is pretty good. I have not seen the first film so I cannot compare the two, but other reviewers say the first film is even better. Those who enjoy edgy comedy and raunchy innuendo should enjoy this one.
With some sexuality, plenty of foul language, and nudity, save this one for the oldest teens and above.
