Asgard is once again under attack, this time by the goddess of death, Hela. Stranded, Thor must fight his way to freedom and find a way home if he hopes to save Asgard.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Cate Blanchett (Hela), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Karl Urban (Skurge), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce/Hulk), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange).
Thor: Ragnarok begins nicely with a bit of comedy and some action. Once Thor and Loki are reunited, and Hela shows up, things get a lot more interesting and funny. Enslaved by the Grandmaster as a fighter, Thor must fight to return to Asgard and save his people. Along the way we meet some new characters, run across some old friends like Hulk, and enjoy more than a few laughs.
Acting was fun as usual with Hemsworth delivering once again. Hiddleston, Urban, Ruffalo, Hopkins, and Cumberbatch all did well with solid delivery and emotion. Blanchett was well cast and played the antagonist perfectly. Goldblum was good in a quirky role that fit him nice. The remainder of the cast was enjoyable throughout.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were all heavily blended with CGI and exhibited good detail. Action scenes were fitting and fun. Dialogue was good with plenty of laughs that keep the film light and moving at a good pace. Sound and soundtrack are fitting.
Thor has been a fun addition to the Marvel universe and this film is no exception. The film keeps things light with some good laughs despite the destructive plot and moves along well. Those who enjoy Marvel films should enjoy this one.
With some very mild sexuality, violence and gore, and mild foul language, this should be fine for teens and above.
