Jared dreams of finding sunken treasure, becoming rich, and living the easy life with Sam. When Bryce and Amanda come to visit, and provide the means to go diving, they find a sunken drug smuggling plane with the cocaine cargo still intact. But when the owner of the plane learns they have found his property, he will stop at nothing to get it back and their world is turned upside down in the process.
Paul Walker (Jared), Jessica Alba (Sam), Scott Caan (Bryce), Ashley Scott (Amanda), Josh Brolin (Bates), Tyson Beckford (Primo).
This one kicks off slowly with a fair amount of character development before settling into the story. There are some good funny moments along the way that keep it light for a while, then the action and drama kick into gear and things get much more interesting. Apparently a remake of The Deep, there isn’t a lot of originality to the story just a few twists that added some plot holes.
Acting was decent with the best performances coming from Brolin and, amazingly, Alba. Walker was his usual self, the same you see in every one of his movies. Sets and backgrounds were beautiful and for the most part, filmed incredibly well. Dialogue and sound were also nicely done and the movie appears to have had a decent budget.
I had mixed feelings about this one. Although there was good action, drama, and suspense, I just never felt the energy the film should have delivered. Kind of like seeing a beautiful flower on TV that you can’t smell, you just don’t get the same feeling about it. Yes, Alba and Scott were a pleasure to watch as was the lovely scenery but they just weren’t enough to make it a great film.
Overall, an enjoyable action adventure flick worth a spot in the middle of your Must See list. Some drugs, foul language, sexual content, and plenty of violence but this should be okay for teens and above.
