Unusual short film in which a detective interrogates talking monkey Jack who is suspected of murder.
Jack Cruz (Himself), David Lynch (Detective), Toototabon (Herself), Emily Stofle (Waitress).
Jack did it! Or, maybe not. Either way the question remains; What did I just watch?
What Did Jack Do? Is a strange short film from Lynch who also stars in the film as the Detective. The film opens as Lynch sits down with Jack and begins to question him over an apparent murder. At one point a waitress comes in with coffee. The story wraps with a disturbing musical number.
Acting was as weird as the film. Lynch was dry and boring, which fit his role. Cruz, in the form of a VFX overlay, was unusual as well. Stofle, in her brief appearance, seemed normal.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are as unusual as the film itself which is shot completely in black and white. The film has a 1950's feel throughout. Dialogue is strange and much of it makes little or no sense at all. Sound and soundtrack are okay.
In the end the film is 17 minutes of strangeness which can probably only be explained by Lynch himself. Lynch fans are likely the only ones who will enjoy this. Had the film come from anyone else, particularly from an unknown name, it would likely be dismissed as garbage.
Nothing here to limit audience age, or interest.
