A strange vertical prison with one cell per floor, two people per cell. Traveling top to bottom each day, a platform carrying food stops for two minutes on each level.
Ivan Massague (Goreng), Zorion Eguileor (Trimagasi), Antonia San Juan (Imoguiri), Emilio Buale (Baharat), Alexandra Masangkay (Miharu), Zihara Llana (Mali), Mario Pardo (Amigo de Baharat).
The Platform is an interesting concept. The vertical prison houses 1 cell per floor, 2 prisoners per cell. Each day a platform carrying food travels from top to bottom of the prison, stopping on each floor for 2 minutes. Prisoners are moved to a different level each month and no food is added to the platform as it travels down hundreds of levels. While it may sound bland, the film quickly evolves to explore the lengths people will go to survive, beating others down if necessary. There is also an aspect of the prison as a puzzle to be solved and parallel storylines which add nice depth.
Acting was solid with Massague doing a nice job. Eguileor was perfectly weird and unsettling. San Juan was okay but felt a bit detached. Masangkay did well with her role. Pardo, Buale, and the remainder of the supporting cast were good.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are bland, industrial, and perfect for the film. Effects were minimal but well done and fitting. Dialogue was much of the meat in this one and was nicely done. Sound and soundtrack are good.
Overall The Platform is a dark, but interesting and entertaining film. Technical work and acting is solid as is direction. The ending could have provided a bit more and fit better but overall the film is enjoyable.
With some nudity, sexuality, fairly graphic violence and gore, foul language, and disturbing adult scenes, this one should be okay for older teens and above.
