Falling into the job of Sheriff of a small town along the U.S. & Mexico border, Wallace begins investigating a drug cartel deal and makes it his mission to clean up the town. But will it take a Sheriff, or a ruthless man determined to punish criminals?
Patrick Wilson (Wallace), Ian McShane (Leland), Lynn Collins (Marla), John Leguizamo (Atticus), Jim Belushi (Shep), Heather Beers (Ellie), Michael Flynn (Jesse), Karli Hall (Lilly), David Fernandez Jr. (Eugenio).
The Hollow Point begins well enough with some character introductions and plot setup that puts Wallace in the job of Sheriff. Though not well explained, Wallace has some history and difficulty in the town that add an air of mystery. The rest of the film is an adventure through criminal activity and small-town police work to stop those criminals. The story finally winds down with a Happy Ever After ending, almost, that will surprise absolutely nobody.
Acting was decent with Wilson almost working as a tough guy in the lead role. McShane was interesting and held his ground well. Belushi was enjoyable and fit his role well. Lequizamo, Collins, and the remainder of the cast did pretty well.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are mild rural America fodder with some mildly interesting scenery. Action scenes are solid with a realistic feel. Dialogue was somewhat dry and could have been used to add a lot more depth to this one. Sound and soundtrack are tepid other than some Johnny Cash tracks.
Overall The Hollow Point is a decent Crime Action & Adventure flick of the entry level variety. Genre fans may find this one a bit boring with a disjointed storytelling approach, while those newer to the genre should enjoy The Hollow Point.
With some graphic violence and foul language, save this one for older teens and above.
