After losing the use of his hands, a talented and arrogant neurosurgeon finds a mystical mentor to help him recover. He may also find a new purpose when the links to other dimension are threatened by his mentor's former student.
Benedict Cumberbatch (Strange), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), Rachel McAdams (Christine), Benedict Wong (Wong), Mads Mikkelsen (Kaecilius), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One), Michael Stuhlbarg (West).
Doctor Strange begins with some backstory and character development which is pretty well done. Still, this feels in the end like Marvel fleshing out their character list for some future projects. Yet, the journey is enjoyable with a plot that has good depth, a nice balance between action and drama, and well done CGI. The film finishes as anticipated, leaving us with expectations we will see more of Dr. Strange.
Acting was enjoyable with Cumberbatch delivering nicely once again. Ejiofor fit his role well and delivered as usual. McAdams, Swinton, and Mikkelsen contributed well, as did the remainder of the supporting cast.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were good but it was CGI that stole the show. Effects were constant, larger than life, and absolutely wonderful. If nothing else, watch this one for the nicely done CGI. Dialogue was solid with nice depth and pace. Sound and soundtrack are fitting.
While some Marvel films feel infantile or ridiculously unrealistic, Doctor Strange feels a bit more adult oriented. Acting, technical work, and plot are all enjoyable and solid. Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Action fans should enjoy this one.
With plenty of sci-fi violence, foul language, and potentially disturbing images, this actually should be fine for teens and above.
