Coming to El Camino to find his father, Eric finds himself in a town with a less than ethical cop who ends up shooting at him, and others, in a liquor store. When the sheriff and deputy arrive they continue the carnage, returning each other's fire, stranding those in the liquor store.
Dax Shepard (Deputy Billy), Kurtwood Smith (Sheriff Bob), Luke Grimes (Eric), Vincent D'Onofrio (Carl), Emilio Rivera (Santos), Kimberly Quinn (Jewels), Jessica Alba (Beth), Michelle Mylett (Kate), Tim Allen (Larry).
El Camino Christmas begins with some funny, a bit of disturbing, and takes off from there. Eric hits town and also immediately hits the radar of a local bully, also a cop. With a taste of drama and some comedy, we find Eric and a few others trapped inside a liquor store. As the local sheriff and deputy shoot at one another from opposite sides of the building, each thinking it is Eric shooting, those inside duck the bullets and try to find a way out.
Acting is enjoyable and solid throughout. Shepard makes a perfect dumb cop and D'Onofrio a perfect bully cop. Smith doesn't quite sell it as sheriff, though maybe that is the point. Grimes was solid and enjoyable, as was Alba, Rivera and the remainder of the cast. Allen was interesting and seemed to fit his role well.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were fairly mild and realistic. Action was also mild but solid and fitting for the film. Dialogue moved along and provided good detail for the story. Sound and soundtrack are mellow but worked nicely in this one.
At the end of the day, El Camino Christmas is a fun little crime comedy with some good names, acting, laughs, and storyline. It may not be a big budget blockbuster, but it is a fun little film. Those who enjoy a funny crime flick should enjoy this one.
With some foul language and mild violence, this should be fine for teens and above.
