Responsible for keeping one of the busiest stretches of highway in the world clear of accidents in Toronto, Heavy Rescue: 401 follows heavy recovery operators as they put their lives on the line to keep traffic moving.
John Allen, Mark Haslett, Gary Vandenhuevel, Collin Vandenhuevel, Sonny Subramaniam, Rick Renders, Dave Moss, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, Dave Stewart, James Ireland, Bubba Semple, Kevin Richardson, Kyle Pewtress.
Heavy Rescue: 401 is a lot like Highway Thru Hell without as much drama or severity of accidents. Yet, the heavy rescue operators in Toronto are often only inches from active lanes of traffic with cars and trucks whipping by at highway speeds. The most interesting part of these heavy rescue shows for me are the logistics required, on the fly, to clear the wrecks. Operator understanding of leverage, structural integrity, and equipment tolerance is constantly impressive.
Being a reality TV show, there isn't much acting in this one.
Camera work is well done with nice placement of cameras on the wrecks as they are moved. I'd be curious to know how many cameras they destroyed making the series! Sound is good, soundtrack is canned drama obviously chosen for effect.
As rescue shows go, this one is pretty mild. Those who have an interest in heavy recovery, the equipment used, or heavy equipment accidents should enjoy this one. Anyone else will probably be bored to tears.
Some foul language but teens and above should be fine with this one.
