Based on a true story, enthusiastic young FBI Agent Nate Foster agrees to infiltrate an extremist white supremacist organization to determine if they are attempting to build a dirty bomb.
Daniel Radcliffe (Nate), Tomi Collette (Angela), Tracy Letts (Dallas), Sam Trammell (Gerry), Nestor Carbonell (Tom), Chris Sullivan (Andrew), Seth Numrich (Roy), Pawel Szajda (Vince), Devin Druid (Johnny).
Imperium begins well enough as inexperienced FBI Agent Nate agrees to go undercover as a white supremacist to thwart a dirty bomb plot. As Nate integrates with the white supremacist groups things get a lot more interesting and the tension builds nicely. Strangely, when things come to a head and we would expect the most action and energy, the film slows down and audience interest is lost. The result is a cookbook ending that falls flat.
Acting was pretty good with Radcliffe putting forth a nice performance. Collette was annoying but entertaining. Letts was a good fit in his role, as was Trammell who delivered wonderfully. The remainder of the cast was interesting and enjoyable.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are mild but fit the story well. Action scenes were solid without being overdone. Dialogue was enjoyable throughout. Sound and soundtrack were solid.
Based on a true story, the first half of Imperium is quite enjoyable while the second half is a bit of a disappointment. Those who enjoy crime drama should enjoy this one. Those looking for intensity and energy may be disappointed.
With some violence, foul language, and racist behavior, older teens and above should be fine watching this one.
