The devil's servant, Guerrero is back from the dead again. This time Guerrero must prevent a band of soldiers and their psychotic leader from acquiring a satanic relic that will allow him to raise the dead.
Danny Trejo (Guerrero), Jake Busey (Col. Jackson Boomer), Elysia Rotaru (Alicia), Dean McDermott (Dr. Goldsworthy), Nathaniel Arcand (Bull Dog), Peter Skagen (Mr. Cravens), Dan McDougall (Bob).
Guerrero is back from the dead to serve the devil once again. This time he must stop psychotic Col. Boomer from acquiring a satanic relic that will allow him to raise an army of dead. Along the way Guerrero reconnects with his estranged daughter, unhappy mother-in-law, and is repeatedly killed only to rise from the dead again. Make no mistake, this is pretty much B-movie horror with plenty of sarcasm and ill fitting references such as binoculars or plastic shotgun shells in the Old West. That said, the film still tends to worm itself into your brain.
Acting was a mess, as usual in these films. Trejo is looking a bit old and worn to be an action hero but he delivers in usual Trejo style. Busey was something of a mess with flat delivery and a performance that never seems to improve. Rotaru was somewhat bland but it was amusing to see her shirt come open more and more toward the end of the film in an apparent attempt to keep the audience engaged. The remainder of the supporting cast had mixed delivery.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are mild and thin at best. Several shots of the town gave the impression it was entirely fake. Action scenes employed some CGI for effect which was a bit over the top and almost comedic at times. Dialogue was disappointing. Most B-movies have at least some humor, this one missed that mark almost completely. Sound showed promise with a nice BRMC tune up front, then fell flat.
Overall Dead Again in Tombstone was a bit disappointing. The first part of the film was decent, then things started to fall apart. With past films humor kept things going but there was little of that here. Die-hard Trejo fans may enjoy this one while must others should probably take a pass.
With plenty of violence, gore, sexuality, nudity, and some foul language, this should be fine for older teens and above.
