After being diagnosed with a terminal illness and given one year to live, Marc refuses to accept his fate and instead decides to have himself cryogenically frozen. Sixty years into the future, Marc becomes the first man to be revived in history.
Tom Hughes (Marc), Charlotte Le Bon (Elizabeth), Oona Chaplin (Naomi), Barry Ward (Dr. West), Julio Perillan (Dr. Serra), Rafael Cebrian (Jeffrey), Bruno Sevilla (Charles).
Realive begins by immersing us in Marc's life, showing us his unusual relationship with Naomi and receipt of his diagnosis which is ridiculously depressing. Once Marc rejects the idea of dying and focuses on cryogenic preservation, things get a bit more interesting. The rest of the story is told with scenes both from his past, and the present. The result is a film that feels as much focused on the drama as it is the sci-fi aspects.
Acting was okay. Hughes prior to freezing felt somewhat detached and lethargic, which worked well in the film after he is thawed. Le Bon was interesting in a role that challenged morality a bit and added some depth. Chaplin was good with solid energy and apparent fit with Hughes. Ward and the remainder of the supporting cast were solid and fairly interesting.
Camera work felt a bit choppy with some strange scene switching that wasn't well explained otherwise. Sets and backgrounds are pretty good with a solid feel and fit. Action is mild but okay. Dialogue is solid with nice depth. Sound and soundtrack are enjoyable.
Overall Realive is a decent flick if you know what you are getting into. Billed as a Sci-Fi Drama, this is more about the drama which can be quite intense at times. The sci-fi aspect is very interesting but takes a backseat much of the time.
Including some sexuality, nudity, and violence, save this one for older teens and above.
