Bruce Willis stars in this remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson classic. Dr. Paul Kersey is a trauma surgeon who has dedicated himself to saving lives. But after his family is attacked, and the system seems to be failing him, Paul sets out to find his own justice.
Bruce Willis (Paul), Vincent D'Onofrio (Frank), Elisabeth Shue (Lucy), Camila Morrone (Jordan), Dean Norris (Det. Raines), Beau Knapp (Knox), Kimberly Elise (Det. Jackson), Len Cariou (Ben), Jack Kesy (Fish).
Death Wish begins nicely with some plot setup and background before the home invasion which completely changes the direction of the film and Paul's life. His wife gone and daughter critically injured, Paul begins to realize the judicial system is failing him and the idea of revenge comes into focus. The remainder of the film is a nice action thriller when Paul's morality changes prompting him to take matters into his own hands.
Acting was decent with Willis doing surprisingly well in an action role, considering his age. D'Onofrio fit his role well, added good depth, and seemed to work well with Willis. Shue was good in her brief role, while Morrone delivered nicely. Norris was in-type and also added a bit of depth to things.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are well done with a solid, realistic feel. Action scenes are good and fit the film well without being overdone. Dialogue is solid with some nice depth and good fit. Sound and soundtrack are mild but good.
Overall Death Wish (2018) is an enjoyable crime drama revenge flick. It has been a while since seeing the original, but overall the film feels like it was consistent with the original. Those who enjoyed the Bronson flick, or a solid crime action film with drama should enjoy this one.
With some potentially disturbing scenes, sexuality, graphic violence, gore, and foul language, save this one for the oldest teens and above.
