Invited last-minute to play a remote venue, a fledgling punk band finds themselves in a neo-Nazi club in the woods. Things only get worse when one of the band members witnesses a murder.
Anton Yelchin (Pat), Joe Cole (Reece), Taylor Tunes (Emily), Ali Shawkat (Sam), Callum Turner (Tiger), David Thompson (Tad), Mark Webber (Daniel), Macon Blair (Gabe), Patrick Stewart (Darcy), Eric Edelstein (Justin), Brent Werzner (Werm).
Green Room begins looking like the trials and tribulations of a fledgling band but really, this is only character introductions and some mild background. Once the band arrives as the neo-Nazi club, things take a dark turn fast when Pat witnesses a murder. The remainder of the film is an intense struggle for survival by the band members who turn this one upside down with a nicely done ending that was not anticipated.
Acting was good with Yelchin, RIP, stepping into his role well. Blair felt out of place at times but overall did a nice job. Stewart was a surprise and while he did well, his rough accent could use some polish. The remainder of the cast was enjoyable with nice delivery and a solid feel.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were good with a nice fit and realistic feel. Action scenes were intense, as was the associated gore which camera work represented very well. Dialogue was a bit rough and some plot points were not well explained at all. Sound and soundtrack, including some decent tracks, was good.
Overall Green Room was a surprise in more ways than one and a nicely done horror crime flick. Those who enjoy graphic violence and gore should enjoy this one. Those who are at all squeamish about blood and gore should probably take a pass.
With plenty of graphic violence, disturbing graphic gore, foul language, drug use, and adult situations, save this one for older teens and adults.
