Follow along as Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Jack White of the White Stripes, and U2's The Edge talk about their creative influences and visit locations important to their musical development. The three finally come together for a short jam session and end up sharing some tips with one another.
Jimmy Page, Jack White, The Edge, Link Wray (archive footage).
It Might Get Loud is intended to be a look at the electric guitar, who it influenced, and how it was influenced to change. At the same time, it is hard not to simply soak up the music of these three legends. Interestingly, White is possibly the purist of the group, using the instrument itself, whereas The Edge is less about playing the guitar than it is electronically altering the sound. Balancing the two we have Page who seems to be an incredibly natural guitarist able to blend both worlds.
While the guitar focus is enjoyable, the best part is these three coming together to play each other's music: Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying", the White Stripes' "Dead Leaves and Dirty Ground", and U2's "I Will Follow". Absolutely wonderful!
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are fun in this one with nice field trips to locations that influenced each of the three musicians. The final set is mild but perfect for a jam session with the three guitarists. Dialogue is decent with only a few slow spots. Sound and soundtrack are lovely and well done.
If you are a fan of any one of these three musicians, or the bands in which they played, you should enjoy this one at least somewhat. Though billed as focusing on the guitar, there is arguably as much focus on these three men, their music, and their bands.
Not much here to limit audience age so teens and above should be fine with this one.
