Disgraced British spy Osnard blackmails local tailor, Harry, into stealing secrets from the Panama Canal Commission regarding plans for the waterway. His last chance for redemption, Osnard goes all out pulling Harry's wife into the mess with them as well.
Pierce Brosnan (Osnard), Geoffrey Rush (Harry), Jamie Lee Curtis (Louisa), Leonor Varela (Marta), Brendan Gleeson (Mickie), Daniel Radcliffe (Mark), Harold Pinter (Benny), Catherine McCormack (Francesca).
The Tailor of Panama, based on the best-selling novel by John le Carre, is a good story of political corruption mixed in with some romance, danger, and ugly brutality. Though the film is a bit slow, the story is enjoyable with a nice twist toward the end. While the film holds attention fairly well, I don't know how historically accurate it may be.
Acting was reasonably good with Brosnan in a familiar role which he managed nicely. Rush also delivered well as usual. Curtis was an interesting addition and did pretty good, though she didn't seem to fit the role all that well. Radcliffe, Gleeson, and the remainder of the supporting cast were solid.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are good with a solid feel. Action scenes were fitting. Dialogue was decent with reasonable plot movement and depth. Sound and soundtrack are okay.
Overall The Tailor of Panama is a decent espionage thriller with a nice blend of drama and politics. While the film is pretty good, it probably is not good enough to re-watch. Those who enjoy a political thriller should enjoy this one.
With a fair amount of sexuality, mild violence and foul language, save this for the oldest teens and above.
