Forty years after her original encounter with Michael Myers as a teenager, Laurie must once again confront her long-time foe. But this time she must protect her daughter as well as herself.
Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie), Judy Greer (Karen), Andi Matichak (Allyson), James Courtney, Nick Castle (The Shape), Haluk Bilginer (Dr. Sartain), Will Patton (Hawkins), Rhian Rees (Dana), Jefferson Hall (Aaron).
Halloween begins well by tying in the original story when a pair of true-crime pod-casters interviews Michael in jail, leading to his escape. Michael quickly resumes murdering people with a focus on Laurie and now her daughter, Karen. The remainder of the film is of the same theme as the original, with Michael seeming to have supernatural powers when it comes to killing and avoiding his own death and Laurie, albeit with a bit more preparation, trying to survive.
Acting was okay with Curtis doing a reasonable reprise of her original role. Greer was okay with decent delivery and fit. Patton was enjoyable and delivered nicely. Bilginer, Matichak, Rees, and the remainder of the supporting cast did fairly well.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds feel solid throughout. Action scenes were good with nice gore, violence, and detail. Dialogue was decent but could have added a bit more depth. Sound and soundtrack are good.
This one seems to be hit or miss for many. Though the film sounds like, and is, an extension of the original film with an updated plot, it also puts effort into following the theme of the original film. For some, this leaves the film looking like a remake without any updating. For others, the pleasure is that this one looks a lot like the original. Which one will you be?
With some mild nudity and sexuality, plenty of violence, foul language, and disturbing images, this should be fine for older teens and above.
