When his girlfriend Beth is killed by a snakebite Zach is devastated. But when Beth returns, and is hidden by her family, Zach realizes he can still have his life with her. But she may not be the same Beth he remembers.
Aubrey Plaza (Beth), Dane DeHaan (Zach), John Reilly (Maury), Moly Shannon (Geenie), Cheryl Hines (Judy), Paul Reiser (Noah), Matthew Gubler (Kyle), Anna Kendrick (Erica), Eva La Dare (Pearline).
Life After Beth is a bit slow to start with extended character introductions and plot setup. Once Beth returns from the dead things get a bit more interesting and while the film does find a better pace things still move along quite slowly. Toward the end Beth finally goes full on zombie and a bit of comedy shows up to keep things exciting. From there the film winds down into a slow moving Happy Ever After ending for everyone but Beth.
Acting was decent with Plaza and DeHaan both doing fairly well and appearing to work well together. Reilly was solid, as were Reiser, Hines, and the remainder of the cast. Kendrick was enjoyable in her smallish role.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were mild but solid and fit the film well. Action scenes and effects are well done with a realistic feel. Dialogue was okay but could have added some depth to the film. Sound and soundtrack are mild fodder for the most part.
While zombie comedies can be a lot of fun, this one was not. The slow pace and lack of energy were unable to overcome a decent storyline. Those who enjoy darker comedy may enjoy this one.
With some sexuality, violence, gore, foul language, zombies, drug use, and more zombies, this should be fine for older teens and above.
