Jurassic World, built on the remains of the original Jurassic Park, is all but forgotten until the island's dormant volcano roars to life threatening the remaining dinosaurs.
Chris Pratt (Owen), Bryce Howard (Claire), Rafe Spall (Eli), Justice Smith (Franklin), Daniella Pineda (Zia), James Cromwell (Ben), Toby Jones (Mr. Eversoll), Ted Levine (Ken), Jeff Goldblum (Ian).
When the dormant volcano on the Jurassic World island roars to life, Owen and Claire rush to save the last remaining dinosaurs. What they find instead is a conspiracy plot to genetically engineer dinosaurs for sale to the highest bidder as military assets. The remainder of the film is a circus adventure as the duo try to locate and rescue the dinosaurs while uncovering the conspiracy and avoiding death by volcano. While the film moves along at a decent pace, the energy level feels a bit low and the originality of earlier films has definitely left the franchise.
Acting was decent with Pratt and Howard seeming to work well together. Spall was a mild antagonist but fitting for a PG film. Appearances by Jones, Levine, and Goldblum felt like a lame attempt to bolster the film with familiar names.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds which are all heavily integrated with CGI are reasonably well done. Dinosaur and action CGI is mature and well done, as expected from this franchise. Dialogue is mediocre and could have done more to build intensity in the film. Sound and soundtrack are okay.
Overall the Jurassic franchise seems to be winding down. Where the original films were fun for the family this entry is solidly aimed at teens with little in the way of entertainment for adults. Franchise die-hard fans may enjoy this one, as should teens.
With violence and gore, foul language, and potentially disturbing images, this should be fine for teens and above.
