Travis is a scientist working as a big game hunter to further his research. Using a time portal run by Charles, Travis and his team take paying customers 65 million years into the past to hunt dinosaurs. But when one of the clients alters the past Travis must find a way to fix things before history is changed and the evolution of mankind altered into non-existence.
Ed Burns (Travis), Ben Kingsley (Charles), Catherine McCormack (Sonia Rand), Jemima Rooper (Jenny), David Oyelowo (Payne), Wilifried Hochholdinger (Lucas).
As a huge time travel fan I found this one very interesting. The ‘time wave’ concept was a bit tough to swallow but without it providing the opportunity and motivation to fix the past the movie would have been almost impossible to make. Regardless, it was delicious to contemplate the possible changes to evolution that could be caused by something as simple as a bit of mud or a butterfly. Just don’t get to caught up in plot details and you will probably enjoy the film.
Acting was pretty good in this one, even by Burns who doesn’t seem to know how to smile and knows a total of two emotional states.
Camera work and sound were decently done, as was dialogue. Special effects were a bit disappointing however, with cheesy scenes that were comparable to High School AV class abilities. There were other effects though, mixed with sets and background, that were fairly well done.
A Sound of Thunder is worth the watch if you are a serious time travel or sci-fi fan but passable for most others.
With some nudity, violence, foul language, and disturbing scenes, this should be fine for teens and above.
