Movie review: Embrace of the Vampire

 
 The cover of Embrace of the Vampire says basically. . . ."Vampirism and gothic eroticism come together, virginal freshman Charlotte (Alyssa Milano, of course) dreams of a handsome lover, and reincarnation of the vampire's lost love. . . ." You get the idea.
Basically: Guy loves girl, guy becomes vampire, girl is lost. 100 years later vampire guy decides Charlotte is the reincarnation of his lost love and does his vampire hypnotism thingy on her. The rest is a twisted strange love story with a big focus on Milano's body.

Alyssa Milano, Martin Kemp, Rachel True, Charlotte Lewis, Jennifer Tilly.

Reality: This was 93 minutes of petting Alyssa Milano's ego and breasts and not necessarily in that order. Not that I think Milano is all that great but, why she took this role is a mystery. The movie was nothing more than a thinly disguised ruse to get her naked. I'm not saying she isn't pleasant to look at but, if you want to make a porno do that instead of pretending to make a vampire flick. At the very least, market the film properly.

Don't waste 93 minutes of your life unless you have always wanted to see Alyssa Milano's boobs and have had sexual fantasies about her in the past. If those things are true you will love this movie!

With plenty of nudity, sexuality including alternative, violence, gore, and foul language, save this for adults and above.

Movie review: Quicksand

 
Martin works for an international New York based bank that is financing a film production in France. When the production company finances come into question Martin heads to France to take a look and quickly finds himself being blamed and framed for all sorts of problems. Now with his family being threatened he decides to try and fight back.

Michael Keaton (Martin), Michael Caine (Jake), Judith Godreche (Lela), Rade Serbedzija (Oleg), Matthew Marsh (Cote).

Putting the two Michael’s together just didn’t sound right, the chemistry just doesn’t seem like it would work, but it does. The two actually do well together yet are different enough to make some scenes quite interesting. Godreche does a wonderful job supporting without falling into the typical role of a powerless female victim in the film only for aesthetics.

The plot was a challenge at points with a couple of holes however the nice twists toward the end redeemed itself. Caine fans will notice similarities to one of his other films. Yes, the plot does involve the kidnapping of women, drugging and assaulting them to make adult films. However, it is not graphic nor is there a lot of detail on the point so it shouldn’t be disturbing to viewers who usually watch movies rated G or above.

Special effects left a bit to be desired in parts while camera work, sets, and backgrounds were nicely done. Sound and dialogue were decent as well.

Overall, this is a nice little textbook thriller without a lot of fluff added to make it pretty or disguise a lack of plot. The actors have surprisingly good chemistry and the plot is decent. You could do better but you could do a lot worse as well. Thriller or crime thriller fans will probably enjoy this one.

Some nudity, sexual content, drug use, foul language, and violence so save this one for adults.
