Movie review: Armed Response

Dispatched to a remote military facility to investigate when the staff stops responding, a Special Ops team finds themselves trapped when an artificial intelligence network goes down. But that is just the beginning of their problems.

Wesley Snipes (Isaac), Anne Heche (Riley), Dave Annable (Gabriel), Colby Lopez (Brett), Kyle Elements (Tyler), Morgan Roberts (Paul), Eyas Younis (Saeed), Mo Gallini (Ahmadi), Chelle Ramos (O'Neill).

Armed Response launches with a bit of backstory that explains next to nothing before moving to the main story. A Special Ops team is sent to a remove military installation when the staff stops responding. Once on site, the Artificial Intelligence system operating the base shuts down leaving the team trapped with little information. The remainder of the film is a weird revenge ghost story whose explanations made little sense. The film finally finishes with a twist by killing off most of the cast.

Snipes and Heche must have both been desperate to have joined this one. Both delivered fairly well, but neither could overcome flaws in the film. Annable, Lopez, and the remainder of the cast felt rough, unpolished, and lacking authenticity.

Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were mediocre at best. Special effects and action scenes were disappointing for the most part and added little to the film. Dialogue could have added a lot more depth to this one. Sound and soundtrack are lethargic.

Overall Armed Response is simply disappointing. The plot is never well explained and the story feels inconsistent at best. Acting lacked energy and emotional depth. Dialogue was choppy and left out a lot of detail. Hardcore Snipes fans may enjoy this one, everyone else should probably take a pass.

With some violence and gore, this should be fine for teens and above.
