In this third film of the franchise, Robert awakens in an Italian hospital with no memory of the past few days. With his mind suffering flashbacks, the famous symbologist is then thrust into a race to stop a psychotic madman from unleashing a plague upon humanity.
Tom Hanks (Robert), Felicity Jones (Sienna), Omar Sy (Bouchard), Irrfan Khan (Sims), Sidse Knudsen (Elizabeth), Ben Foster (Zobrist), Ana Ularu (Vayentha), Ida Darvish (Marta).
Based on the Dan Brown books, this third film of the franchise finds Robert awakening in an Italian hospital with no memory of the past few days. Without a moment to recover, he is quickly drawn into a race to stop a psychotic madman from releasing a humanity killing plague. The remainder of the film is classic Dan Brown with mysterious religious riddles, spies, danger, action and bullets with the requisite Happy Ever After ending.
Acting was good though Hanks, or possibly his character, felt somewhat toned down. Jones was an interesting pairing with Hanks but she did quite nicely. Sy, Knudsen, Foster and the remainder of the supporting cast was good.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were wonderful as usual in this franchise with beautiful scenery and settings. Action was good with nice use of CGI and a solid feel. Dialogue was enjoyable and provided nice depth. Sound and soundtrack were fitting.
Overall Inferno is another well done thriller from the franchise, despite the characters feeling like they had a bit less energy. Fans of the franchise may start to feel some repetition to the theme while those who haven't seen the first two films will probably enjoy this one more.
With some violence, foul language, and potentially disturbing images this should be fine for teens and above.
