Trucking in Australia is a rough job. Big-rig drivers face unimproved roads, rivers and mud, wildfires, and ridiculous heat. Follow along in this series and see what life is like driving a big-rig in Australia.
Russ McDonough, Steve Grahame, Peter Teatoff, Glenn Kendall, Mark Cromwell, Jeff Barrow, Corey Chapman, Luke Hewitt (Narrator).
Like most reality TV shows, Outback Truckers is addictive in the same light as watching a train wreck. I must also admit a lifelong fascination with big-rig trucking. This series follows along as truckers brave the Australian Outback battling unimproved roads and nature as they try to deliver freight on time and undamaged.
While the series moves along at a decent pace narration was a bit annoying as it tried to make more drama, and focused constantly on money, for dramatic effect. At the same time, it was interesting to see how the drivers overcame the multitude of problems by which they were plagued.
There isn't much actual acting here, so the truckers profiled felt fairly authentic throughout.
Camera work and backgrounds are decent though editing is a bit rough in the first couple of episodes. Repetitive use of clips, particularly when events don't match, feels cheap and detracts from the realistic feel of the series. Dialogue felt unscripted and realistic. Sound is decent.
Overall if you are interested in extreme trucking or the Australian Outback, you should enjoy this one a bit. If on the other hand you are offended by foul language, pass on this one.
With foul language and a few potentially disturbing scenes, including mild gore, this should be fine for teens and above.
