Who to call when there is an apocalypse? Suicide Squad; the government recruited group of super-villains being controlled by blackmail and bribery to do the dirty work in return for less jail time.
Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley), Jared Leto (Joker), Common (Monster T), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Ezra Miller (Flash), Jay Hernandez (Diablo), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Croc), Cara Delevingne (June/Enchantress).
Suicide Squad is a darker look at the DC Comics world and the super-villain inhabitants. Blackmailed and coerced by the government in exchange for lighter sentences, the Suicide Squad is tasked with stopping a witch. Of course, the witch was released by the government and intended to be a member of the group. Once the plot is established, the remainder of the film is a winding and exciting adventure of action and adventure.
Acting was enjoyable with Robbie stealing the show. She was absolutely hysterical and fit the role of Harley Quinn well. Leto made for an interesting Joker, though he is one of our least favorite to play the Joker. Smith was solid as usual, as was Courtney, Hernandez, and the remainder of the cast.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds which were all heavily blended with CGI were nicely done with a big budget larger-than-life feel. Dialogue was all over the place with some dark humor, drama, and sparks of insanity. Sound was good as was the soundtrack, despite feeling like a whole lot of club music.
Suicide Squad is a well done and enjoyable adventure through the darker side of the DC world. That said, it felt like some liberties were taken with character history. DC fans should enjoy this one while those who prefer more reality based films will be disappointed.
With some mild nudity and sexuality, plenty of violence and a bit of gore, foul language, disturbing images, and general mayhem this should be fine for teens and above.
