Movie review: Mike Birbiglia: Thank God for Jokes

 
Comedian Mike Birbiglia hits the stage in Brooklyn with his unique story-telling approach and audience engagement.

Mike's story-telling approach to comedy is something I really enjoy. Sadly, I don't actually enjoy his jokes that much. While there are some laughs, they are mild. What really shines through here is his disdain and what feels like insecurity about much of life. With the requisite moral dilemmas, political pokes, and dissection of telling jokes, there are some decent laughs here. There is also a fair amount of dry dialogue and jokes that end with a slight chuckle.

Visually Mike is an enjoyable comedian with a fair amount of physical activity, facial expressions, and audience engagement.

Camera work, lighting, and sound are good.

If you enjoy some mild comedy presented in story-telling fashion, and are not easily offended, you should enjoy this one. Those with an inflated sense of morality will likely be unhappy with this one.
