Supernatural detective John Constantine has been battling demons on earth his entire life in an effort to maintain balance between Heaven and Hell. When policewoman Angela asks for his help proving her sister did not commit suicide John finds more than either of them expected.
Keanu Reeves (John), Rachel Weisz (Angela/Isabel), Shia LaBeouf (Chas), Djimon Hounsou (Midnite), Max Baker (Beeman), Pruitt Vince (Hennessy), Tilda Swinton (Gabriel), Peter Stormare (Satan).
Constantine begins well with the events that launch this chapter of John's life. As the plot evolves, character development deepens and John quickly finds himself trying to save the world. From there the action cranks up a notch and while the plot continues to develop, much of the rest of the film is intense supernatural action. The story finishes with a fairly well done Happy Ever After ending.
Acting was solid with Reeves delivering well. Weisz also did quite nicely and worked well with Reeves. LaBeouf was a nice addition and brought a lighter side to things. Hounsou, Baker, Vince and the remainder of the experienced supporting cast did nicely.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were good and heavily blended with CGI. Action scenes and CGI were well done and entertaining. Dialogue was decent, explaining things pretty well and adding good depth. Sound and soundtrack are enjoyable and fitting.
Overall Constantine is a solid and enjoyable Sci-Fi & Fantasy Action flick. With good depth, nice blending of action and drama, well done technical work and acting, this one is worth a watch.
With plenty of violence, foul language, and potentially disturbing images, you should probably save this one for older teens and above.
