When a deadly virus outbreak takes place in present Britain the government quarantines the infected by building a wall that effectively splits the country in half. 30 years later the virus appears again in the previously thought uninfected side of the country. In a bid to find a cure, the government sends a para-military group into the infected zone. Led by Eden, a survivor from the original outbreak, the group will fight for their lives in a world gone crazy.
Rhona Mitra (Maj. Eden Sinclair), Bob Hoskins (Bill), Craig Conway (Sol), Malcolm McDowell (Dr. Kane), Lee-Anne Liebenberg (Viper).
Get ready for some great gore and violence shots, mediocre acting, mildly interesting special effects, and a ton of continuity and plot holes. As catastrophe plots go, this one is pretty good. Particularly interesting was how quarantined survivors behind the wall began to view those outside the wall as the infected, feeling that they brought the virus upon the world and are the problem. Beyond that, this movie was a confusing blend of Mad Max type action, military action film, car commercial, and drama. Add plot conveniences such as a cache of brand new items (including a Bentley) that are exactly what the assault group needs, and you need to suspend disbelief to keep watching.
I did enjoy Liebenberg as Viper and Conway as Sol. I also liked the use of the quarantine symbol throughout the movie, including on Sol's back.
There were some good action scenes and very nice gore shots. Camera work was okay with some shaking and scene flash shots that got a bit annoying. Audio was well done however, the soundtrack was lame at best.
Somewhat hard to swallow, and probably not one that I care to watch again anytime soon, it was an entertaining movie probably best enjoyed by those who like violence, zombie flicks, or end of the world scenarios.
Foul language, gore, nudity, violence, adult concepts, and general nastiness mean that preens and younger should be kept away from this one.
