Eliza Dushku (Lt Megan), Cary Elwes (Capt Shine), Timothy Hutton (Richard), Tom Malloy (Det Harper), Michael Ironside (Capt Norcross), Bill Moseley (Tanner), Carl Lumbly (Dr Parks), Larry Hankin (Perry).
Loosely based on true events, Megan is a police investigator working the murder investigation of a young girl when she becomes obsessed and begins having hallucinations. Relieved of her duties, she continues to investigate the murder even as her mental state deteriorates, convinced there is a serial killer on the loose committing murders where the first and last initials match then dumping the body in a town with a matching initial.
The movie started off looking like a fairly bland murder mystery that turned into a psuedo horror flick with the addition of a few ghosts. The plot didn't know that though and decided to morph into a psychological thriller. With plenty of supporting roles and mild misdirection the audience can spend a lot of time trying to identify the killer. At the same time, the brooding mood of the film was nicely punctuated with some mild BOO moments here and there. With a couple of nice twists the film was doing well but completely leaves the audience hanging at the end.
I thought the acting in this film was well done by everyone. Dushku's character was hard to believe at times but I think it was the character and not her abilities. Hutton delivered as usual as did Ironside.
Camera work involved washed out colors but was otherwise good. Sets, background, dialogue and sound were all okay and what special effects seen were nicely done though simple.
Overall this was an enjoyable if somewhat mediocre thriller with no huge surprises, effects, or inspirational dialogue. Some violence, foul language, and some brief nudity so save this for the oldest teens and above.
